South Portland Maine Hotels

Affordable Hotels Near Shopping and Restaurants

South Portland Maine hotels offer an alternative to staying right in Portland itself. There are a lot of advantages to staying in this area.

What are they? Well...

  • South Portland offers a lot of shopping opportunities, like the Maine Mall, Christmas Tree Shops and many other great stores as well as large movie theaters.

  • This city provides easy access to the highway and is very convenient to Portland and the Old Port, which are great destinations.

  • South Portland Maine hotels are generally cheaper than Portland hotels (plus no parking charges) and it's only a 10-15 minute drive into Portland.

  • There are a good number of Maine tourist attractions here or close-by, like lighthouses and beaches.

  • There are good restaurants available - many of them are chain restaurants like Olive Garden, Uno's and Chipotle (my family's personal favorite!) which can be good for families - but there are some notable independent restaurants as well.

  • The Portland Maine airport is nearby and easy to access from South Portland.

So if you are thinking of visiting the greater Portland area for dining, shopping (in Portland or Freeport), cruises, sports, art or cultural events, sightseeing or anything else, consider staying at one of the very nice and reasonably priced South Portland Maine hotels.

Best South Portland Hotels

Courtyard by Marriott South Portland Maine Hotels

The Courtyard by Marriott Portland Airport at 100 Southborough Drive is a nice, clean, new hotel. Although "airport" is in the name, it is not located directly at the airport, but within a few minutes drive (you won't hear airplane noise). They have a pool and hot tub, and offer breakfast for a charge. The Christmas Tree Shop is located right across the street. It is very close to both the Maine Turnpike and I-295 and you may hear some noise from that - but it is convenient for traveling. Summer weekend rates are approximately $180 per night.

Marriott at Sable Oaks - South Portland Maine Hotels

The Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks, 200 Sable Oaks Drive, is a newly renovated hotel right near the golf course. They have a restaurant on site as well as a pool, hot tub, sauna and fitness center. The Maine Mall and many other stores are within a few minutes, and the airport is a quick drive too. Breakfast is extra. Pet are allowed. A room here will cost about $200 on a summer weekend.

Best Western Merry Manor Inn - South Portland Maine hotels

The Best Western Merry Manor Inn at 700 Main Street is a bit less expensive (internet rate of $175 per night for summer weekend with reduced rates for seniors, AAA, and military), and includes full breakfast at the Governor's Restaurant which is attached to the hotel. This is a nice, clean, basic hotel which your kids would probably like since the pool is very cool. It is a heated, saltwater indoor/outdoor pool that is open year round, so you can swim comfortably in a snow storm! They have a small indoor kiddie pool too. There are also massage chairs in some of the rooms. The location provides easy access to the airport, the Maine Mall and downtown Portland.
