Portland Maine

Portland Maine hotels, incredible restaurants, cobblestone streets, totally unique specialty shops and galleries, a hip, eclectic arts and music scene, outstanding cultural, historic and recreational attractions, local breweries (Portland loves its beer!), stunning views of Casco Bay and its islands and so, so much more!

Is Portland, Maine on your list of "must visit" vacation spots this year? If it isn't, it should be.

This historic seaport town (well, small city really) on the shores of Casco Bay is Maine's largest city and one of the few working waterfronts left in the country. There is so much to do and see in Portland and the immediate surrounding areas of Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, Yarmouth, Falmouth and Freeport, that you could easily spend your whole summer here and not get it all done!

Portland Maine Restaurants

Duckfat

If you're a foodie like me, you'll really dig Portland. Voted "Best Food Town in America" by Bon Appetite in 2009, Portland has really put itself on the map of top food destinations!

The best words to describe the Portland Maine food scene? Fresh - Local - Seasonal - Sustainable. Award winning, creative, passionate chefs...food sourced from local farms...the freshest seafood right off the boat...and an outstanding variety to choose from makes Portland Maine a food lovers paradise.

I'll try to cover the best of the best here - for all budgets. Learn where the locals eat (those are always the best spots, aren't they?) and which places are not to be missed when visiting Portland.

Casco Bay Lines

One thing you don't want to miss doing while in Portland is actually getting off the mainland and onto Casco Bay. There are a number of ways to do this for all budgets - sailing cruises, ferry cruises, lobster boat tours, kayaking, whale watching trips, fishing trips, and a whole lot more.

Taking one of the many available tours is a great way to spend a few hours and get to know Portland. Culinary tours, walking tours, duck tours, trolley tours...so many ways to get around and see the sights! Stop in and see the Victoria Mansion or the Portland Observatory.

Portland Museum of Art

Love art? Portland is full of opportunities to experience all of the arts - from galleries to music venues, theatre to museums. Portland has been called one of the best small arts towns in the country.

If you happen to be in town on the first Friday of the month, it's fun to join the crowds of people on the First Friday Art Walk, a free, self-guided tour of art galleries, studios and museums.

From 5-8 PM, dozens of galleries stay open late so art lovers can visit with artists and snack on wine and cheese. This event brings out lots of interesting people and you never know what you'll see!

The Portland Museum of Art also offers free admission on these nights. For more details on participating venues see www.firstfridayartwalk.com.
