Top Old Orchard Beach Restaurants
Best Places to Eat in One of Maine's Top Vacation Spots
Old Orchard Beach restaurants serve up the typical seaside fare for the thousands of visitors who venture out to this fun slice of the Maine coast. There's no shortage of the luscious Maine lobster here, nor juicy fried clams, tender sea scallops, tasty Maine shrimp or succulent crab in a variety of preparations. Restaurants in Old Orchard Beach also offer some great choices for "landlubbers" too, and there's lots of options for cheap, quick lunches and hearty breakfasts to start the day.
Best Old Orchard Beach Restaurants for Breakfast
For a good sit down breakfast in Old Orchard Beach, go to Michele's Garden Cafe. Located at 2 Cascade Road (which admittedly is not right in the heart of the action near the strip) this restaurant will help you start your day the right way, full and happy. A place that is frequented by locals, it is usually busy but service is fast and the prices are very reasonable for a tourist town. They offer up all the usual favorites from omelettes to pancakes to eggs benedict. Michele's is a cash only place.
You can also get breakfast at Beach Bagels, Mary & Hoss's (albeit a late breakfast) and Joseph's By The Sea. For more information on these Old Orchard Beach restaurants, see below in the lunch section.
Lunch in Old Orchard Beach Maine
I think that Old Orchard has some great choices for lunch that are quick, tasty and easy on the budget. The Old Orchard Beach restaurants highlighted here are best for a very casual lunch eaten either on outdoor tables or taken with you to the beach.
Since we owned a small sandwich shop that served unique wraps ourselves, I might be a little partial to this new restaurant. Mainely Wraps located at 40 E. Grand Avenue serves up great food at a good price. You'll find interesting flavor combinations in their cleverly named wraps. They use fresh, top quality ingredients that appeal to everyone from vegetarian to die hard carnivore. If you're looking for clam chowder or a great lobster roll in town, go no further. The breakfast sandwiches and from-scratch muffins are well worth the visit too. Try the Mainely For Two for a great, affordable picnic lunch on the beach.
Mainely Wraps is open from 7 am to 5 PM. Check them out at www.mainelywraps.com.
For a laid back, fun experience, go to Hoss & Mary's Tasty Grub at 27 West Grand Ave. (if you need parking, go across the street at the Mt. Royal Hotel). Open from 10 to 9 (8 on Sundays, and closed on Tuesdays), this is a casual, cash only place where you order inside and sit mostly outside. An eclectic menu offers up a wide variety of burgers, as well as seafood baskets and sandwiches, soups and even a bit of Mexican thrown in for good measure. They have a few breakfast items that are served anytime. The owners are wonderful and make going there a memorable experience.
Beach Bagels at the top of the strip is a great little place to grab breakfast or lunch. They use quality Boars Head meats for their bagel sandwiches and also offer some good vegetarian choices. There are some tables to sit outside. The staff here is great and I think you'll agree that it's a good place to grab a quick, inexpensive yet satisfying lunch.
If none of these Old Orchard Beach restaurants strike your fancy, grab a slice of pizza at one of the places on the main strip (I like Rocco's best), or have lunch on the Pier at one of the restaurants there. There plenty of lunch choices in OOB!
Best Old Orchard Beach Restaurants For Dinner
If you're looking for a nice, relaxing dinner with top quality food, there's a few places to try in Old Orchard Beach.
Joseph's By The Sea at 55 West Grand Avenue serves up fine dining with an even finer view. A popular place for weddings and banquets, Joseph's By The Sea is a good place for a romantic meal. The menu is seafood heavy, with some other meat and vegetarian options. Prices range from $19 for their fairly creative vegetarian meal (not just pasta with vegetables like most places) to $32, and of course lobster goes by market prices. Reservations are recommended.
Housed in a 1910 Victorian home at 28 East Grand Avenue, The Landmark is another finer dining restaurant, a little less pricey than Joeseph's with meals ranging from the high teens to the low twenties. The menu here is a little on the small side, but they do a nice job with what they offer.
Venture out of the main area of Old Orchard Beach a few minutes into Ocean Park and you'll find Yellowfin's at 5 Temple Avenue. This is one of the nicer Old Orchard Beach restaurants that is open year round. It's BYOB here (Ocean Park is the dry part of town), so take along a bottle of wine and they'll cork it for you and provide wine glasses and chillers. I think you'll be pleased with this lovely restaurant - the food is good and the atmosphere is relaxing.
A Break from the Ordinary
If you've had all the seafood you can take, head over to Bua Thai for some flavor sensation. I know I get a little bored of the same old flavors over and over again and love a little something different while on vacation. Bua Thai offers fresh Thai food that is well prepared and reasonably priced. They are located at 194 Saco Ave.
The Best "Fun" Food in Old Orchard Beach
I would be remiss to not mention some of the fun food that can be found in OOB. It's carnival like atmosphere, with Palace Playland smack dab in the middle of the place, has the food that goes along with it. Find pizza, fried dough (the best is Rocco's), hot dogs, french fries (Pier Fries - yum!), ice cream and more, pretty much everywhere you look on the strip. Prices are actually pretty reasonable for a tourist town!
Old Orchard Beach restaurants should provide everything you need during your vacation on the Southern Maine Coast, but if not, you can always venture out to one of the many other great towns in Maine that are within easy driving distance.
If you like fine dining you can try Mia's at Pepperell Square (17 Pepperell Square) in Saco Maine which is just one town over - maybe a 10 to 15 minute drive. A small, upscale establishment with a focus on fresh and local, you're sure to love your meal here.
Of course, you could eat at a different restaurant everyday in Portland Maine and not get through them all - many rivaling the likes of the best Boston, New York City and West Coast restaurants - and that' a mere 20 minutes away. Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Ogunquit and Wells Beach also offer some wonderful restaurant choices too.
I hope you love trying some of these great Old Orchard Beach restaurants! Enjoy!
