Old Orchard Beach Maine -
Hotels, Restaurants and FUN, FUN, FUN!

Old Orchard Beach Maine

Old Orchard Beach Maine - Long days soaking in the rays and long nights of good food and great fun - that's what awaits you here.

Do you love lazily basking in the sun on wide sandy beaches? How about a fun, carnival-like atmosphere? Are you a dancin', karaoke-lovin', party animal? Do you want to wake up each morning to glorious views of the Atlantic ocean from your hotel room that is just steps away from the beach? Old Orchard Beach Maine offers all this and much, much more.

Locals love living here while tourists love coming back again and again for the beaches, shops, festivals and activities that seem to enliven the town especially in the summer and fall months.

Old Orchard Beach Maine Pier

First stop is The Pier - 500 feet of wooden walkway stretching into the Atlantic Ocean. Its entire length is filled with all sorts of possible activities including shopping in the souvenir shops, eating (everything from your favorite munchies to fresher than fresh seafood at any of the 5 restaurants on The Pier) and dancing the night away in the nightclubs. Your kids will love the fun atmosphere of the pier and you'll love the opportunities for dining and entertainment.

Or you can always head for the town's main attraction - the beach, of course! With a total length of 7 miles, the beach offers a kaleidoscope of sights, sounds and even smells that make any tropical destination pale in comparison. You'll be amongst loads of people, no doubt, but hey - that's just summer on the Maine beaches!

Old Orchard Beach Maine Palace Playland

Old Orchard Beach Maine is a great family vacation destination. Not only do the kids love the beach and playing in the (very cold!) waves, they'll also appreciate the amusement park that sits right beside the beach.

Also, not more than a 10-15 minute drive to Saco, Maine brings to you other great kid destinations like Funtown/Splashtown USA (my kids favorite summer outing!), Aquaboggin Water Park and the Saco Drive-In.

Palace Playland is 4 acres of fun, fun, fun for the young and the young at heart. Have you ever seen the ocean or watched fireworks from 70 feet in the air atop a brand new spectacularly lit up Ferris wheel? If not, you've just got to give it a try!

Add one of the largest arcades in New England, roller coasters, carnival games, pizza, fried dough and the famous Pier fries, and your kids will be begging to come back year after year.

And don't forget to plan your itinerary in OOB (as we call it) with its summer calendar in mind. Get to see fireworks in the square, a music festival filled with concerts of almost every genre, a beer fest, chili and chowder fests, hot air balloon festival and more.

Old Orchard Beach Maine is also a great mid-way point between other desirable destinations like the beach towns to the south (Kennebunkport, Wells, Ogunquit, York) and the greater Portland area. It's an easy drive in either direction that will lead to countless other opportunities to see more of what Maine has to offer.

Old Orchard Beach Hotels

One of the best things I like about Old Orchard Beach Maine is that many of the hotels sit right on the beach. You'll find this more here than in any of the other Southern Maine beach towns. Walk out of your hotel and within steps you are on the beach - that just really screams vacation to me. Open the window or door to the balcony and be lulled by the sounds of the ocean waves crashing on the shore. Ahhhh...

Old Orchard Beach Echo Motel and Cottages

Luckily, many of the ocean side hotels are also highly regarded by visitors for their service, amenities and cleanliness. OOB is a great choice for reasonably priced ocean front accommodations. Many of the hotels are family owned, good quality and family friendly. Old Orchard Beach Maine is known for being an affordable family beach vacation destination. No matter what price range your looking for, you are sure to find a suitable place call home for your vacation.

Old Orchard Beach Maine Restaurants

In OOB, there are certainly many restaurants to choose from. Most cater to the middle of the road - good food for tourists (all your basics with plenty of seafood) a little on the pricey side.

The restaurants on The Pier offer an Irish Pub, a raw bar, steak, seafood, and "bar food" with inside seating and outdoor decks.

There are good choices for families, and lots of quick options for grabbing snacks during the day. You'll find plenty of options for pizza (Rocco's is the best, though Lisa's & Bill's have a following too) and take out food. Don't miss the french fries along the strip to the pier. Ahhhh...fond memories of pier fries doused in vinegar and dunked in ketchup...yum!

OOB Pier Fries

Beach Bagels, at the top of the strip that leads to the Pier, is a great place to grab a sandwich for breakfast or lunch.

Personally, if I was looking for GREAT food - I would take the 20-30 minute drive into Portland, Maine. But if you're really looking to just stay around town, your best bet would be Yellowfin's Restaurant in Ocean Park (the upscale and quieter area of OOB). Well loved by visitors and reasonably priced for fine dining, you must bring your own wine or beer here - as Ocean Park is a "dry" area of town.
