Maine Lobster Festival 2011
The Maine Lobster Festival, where 20,000 lbs of lobster, a parade, arts, crafts, road races, kids activities, entertainment and much more happily coincide on the beautiful coast of Rockland, Maine.
Be sure to mark your calendars for this year's Maine Lobster Fest held August 3rd through the 7th at Rockland's Harbor Park. You won't want to miss one of the biggest festivals in Maine in honor of the luscious Maine lobster.
What does the Rockland Lobster Festival have in store for you this year?
Well, of course lobster is the star of the show. What other festival can you go to and order up a single, double or triple Maine lobster dinner? How about some fresh steamed clams or maybe you like them fried - they are delicious that way too! Maine shrimp and mussels are also on the list of delicacies of the sea. If seafood isn't your thing, there's a bunch of other summer fair food available. You can also stuff yourself silly on an all-you-can-eat Maine blueberry pancake breakfast!
Each day the Maine Lobster Festival offers entertainment. There are a variety of acts each year including comedy, juggling, jazz, blues, country and more. You can join an amateur cooking contest or watch as the contestants cook up a variety of seafood to try to take the prize.
Join in or watch as brave souls try to traverse a string of 50 lobster crates submerged in the chilly ocean during the Lobster Crate Race. Losers take the plunge into the cool Maine waters!
There are plenty of things for the kids to do in the kids tent too. They can participate in eating contests, costume parades, carnival rides and a one mile fun run. They'll also enjoy watching the parade taking place at 10 a.m. on Saturday the 6th.
For you grown-ups, aside from the lobster and entertainment, you'll enjoy the arts and crafts tents. Local artists and Maine crafters display their creativity for you to window shop or buy to take home a little peice of Maine. Or maybe you'd enjoy taking a tour of a U.S. Navy ship or going for a run or walk in a 5K or 10K road race.
There's so much to do during the 5 day Maine Lobster Festival, you won't be disappointed you made it a part of your Maine vacation!
