Family Resorts In A Wonderful Maine Vacation Town
Kennebunkport Hotels - In a town known and loved for its historic homes and amazing bed and breakfast inns, you might feel like a great
hotel experience is not an option. But in Kennebunkport, there are a few very nice hotels that give that old world resort charm and experience that
just might make for one of the most memorable vacations you've had in a long time.
The Colony Hotel, Kennebunkport Maine
This quaint, old fashioned (but well kept) grand hotel that sits high above the ocean has boat-loads of character. Located at 140 Ocean Avenue, you'll
feel like you've stepped back in time to how the elite vacationed in Kennebunkport when you enter the property. Sweeping views of the Atlantic are yours
to be had from the beautiful porches, many rooms, the pool and the dining areas.
There is much to do when you stay at the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport. Swim in the large saltwater pool while gazing at the ocean, play shuffleboard,
enjoy the wonderful food (complimentary breakfast buffet) and spectacular Sunday brunch, take the shuttle into town for some shopping or dining, walk along
the ocean and by
Walker's Point - the summer home of the Bush's, enjoy the beach across the street (small and somewhat rocky), or just sit and relax on the porch or in the lounges.
With a few different buildings to choose from, know that the main building is old (thin walls, can be loud) and does not have air conditioning or TV's in the rooms. Choose the
garden houses if you need those things to be comfortable in a hotel. If a view is important, choose the main building over the garden houses. Pets are
allowed for an additional $30 per pet per night.
The Nonantum Resort
A well loved family resort, the Nonantum is one of the best Kennebunkport hotels for those looking to have lots to do right where they are staying. Like
the Colony, the Nonantum is a very large and old grand hotel with character. It's location right on the river and within walking distance to town makes
it a very convenient place to call home for your Maine vacation in Kennebunkport.
Definitely geared towards families, the hotel offers much to do including a kids's club, pool, shuffleboard, croquet, basketball, campfires with smores, storytime
and lots of beautiful lawns for playing and running around. You can take the hotel's lobster boat tour on the Rugosa or go sailing aboard the Pineapple
Ketch (my husband and I did this years ago and it was a lot of fun!), or charter a fishing boat right from the property. Also, kayaks and bikes are
available for rent.
When staying here, you'll enjoy the wonderful breakfast buffet, friendly staff and laid back feel. Remember that it is an old resort and expect the
rooms to have that feel - this isn't a brand new chain hotel. With the right expectations I think you'll enjoy the Nonantum and plan to return whenever
vacationing in Kennebunkport Maine.
The Rhumb Line Resort
Another of the Kennebunkport hotels that has a decidedly family focus is the Rhumb Line Resort located on Ocean Avenue. Though it is not a ocean
view hotel, it is located within walking distance of a small beach area. More of a motel than a resort, the Rhumb Line is a middle of the road choice
in Kennebunkport lodging - affordable and not fancy but comfortable if you have the proper expectations.
There are a few nice amenities that the Rhumb Line has like indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs as well as pool side dining and bar. Rooms are
basic and continental breakfast is included in the rates.
Kennebunkport hotels offer families wonderful accommodations and amenities to make a spectacular Maine vacation experience. Even if you don't have
children, you might choose a hotel over a Kennebunkport inn for a number of reasons (some people just aren't the B &
B "type") and those highlighted here will provide you with comfort and relaxation, no doubt. Enjoy your stay in one of the nicest vacation towns in Maine!
