uncrowded beaches, quaint shops, amazing restaurants and lots of exciting outdoor activities on the water - what more could you ask for in a vacation?
This is an area that is wonderful to visit year round with all the festivals, craft fairs and events that draw lots of visitor from all over. Christmas
Prelude is particularly enchanting. No matter what time of year you decide to visit the Kennebunks, you're sure to have a very memorable time!
Overview of the Kennebunks
If you're looking to go to the Southern Maine coast for vacation, the Kennebunk Maine region has a lot to offer. In my opinion, the area is best suited
for adults or families with older children but that's not to say you'll feel out of place if you have small children. Certainly, the beaches are a
wonderful playground for young and old children and adults alike, and the region has some beautiful beaches!
Known for its wonderful old historic homes built during the 18th and 19th centuries, Kennebunk Maine is a great place to explore. It also has one
of the best Main Streets in all of Maine, with some of the area's best restaurants, unique shops and local businesses. It is nice to spend a few hours
walking Main Street and having lunch. The annual sidewalk sale at the beginning of August is a fun community event.
Kennebunk is also home to the region's
biggest beaches which are uncrowded and dog friendly. Parking for most Kennebunk
beaches requires a parking pass which can be obtained from the Town Hall (985-3675).
Best known as the summer vacation home of former President Bush, Kennebunkport is a quaint seaside village with wonderful bed and breakfast inns that
were formerly stately old homes of sea captains, numerous shops and enough great restaurants to keep any traveler happy. With the harbor and Kennebunk River in the port,
there are numerous opportunities for whale watching and fishing tours, as well as kayak and canoe adventures.
Cape Porpoise Maine
A village in Kennebunkport, Cape Porpoise is a working harbor and home to over 50 lobster boats and fishermen. Visit it for a true taste of the Maine coast.
A good place to see the Goat Island Lighthouse (it was the last manned lighthouse in Maine) - it can be viewed from the municipal pier there. Have lunch
at the cozy Ramp Bar and Grill or pick up some wonderful take-out from the Cape Porpoise Kitchen and take it to the docks and revel in the
beauty of Maine.
Arundel is a lovely rural community once known as North Kennebunkport. Worth a visit if you are into antiques and rural drives.

Make reservations here for a special occasion - even if the occasion is just a much needed vacation! 50 Local is a fairly new restaurant on Main Street
in Kennebunk that focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. It has garnered rave reviews since it has opened. If you're looking for something much more
casual, The Clam Shack just across the river from Kennebunkport is a favorite of locals and tourists alike.
