Boothbay Harbor Maine -
Hotels, Restaurants and Things To Do
Boothbay Harbor Maine is one of the best summer destinations in the United States with its rugged coastline, nautical charm,
dazzling sunsets and laid back feel.
Widely known as the Boating Capital of New England, Boothbay Harbor Maine transforms from a relatively small
community of just over 2,000 to a bustling maritime-inspired town filled with eager tourists in the summer.
Boothbay Harbor's large fleet of excursion boats take locals
and tourists alike on memorable cruises upon the water past lighthouses and stunning coastal scenery to nearby islands.
In town visitors will enjoy the charming fishing village dotted with fascinating shops, restaurants serving up the freshest
seafood and a myriad of venues for history, culture and the arts. Today, Boothbay Harbor Maine is a hotspot for a great vacation,
thanks to a variety of natural and man made attractions.
Not To Be Missed In Boothbay Harbor Maine!
There is so much to see and do on land and water that you'll find yourself wishing you'd planned to stay longer (and definitely planning on returning!).
A great destination for couples or families, young and old alike, Boothbay Harbor offers something for all interests.
Must-see sights include the 248-acre Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (with its 2 acre Children's Garden), which are magnificent from any angle
with ornamental and rose gardens coupled with forests overlooking the water. Don't miss the Boothbay Railway Village either for a taste of the
quintessential New England town along with an
impressive collection of antique vehicles.
Taking to the water will give you a whole different perspective of Boothbay Harbor Maine. With all of its coves and inlets, the harbor makes for
excellent sea kayaking - take a tour or venture out on your own. How about a peaceful cruise out to Monhegan Island, or a whale watching or fishing excursion?
Maybe hopping aboard a historic schooner like the Lazy Jack is your thing. Whatever you choose, your ocean adventure will delight you.
With seven lighthouses in the Boothbay Harbor Region, be sure to venture out to see at least a few. I'd suggest hopping aboard The Novelty from Pier 8
to take a tour out to the Burnt Island Light.
This tour offers an entertaining and educational adventure where you can step back in time to 1950. This living
history reenactment of the light house keeper and his family is a great way to learn all about the lighthouse and the Maine coast. Kids will love exploring
the 5 acre island too!
With Boothbay Harbor being bound to the sea, a large aquarium is to be expected. The Maine State Aquarium's main gallery resembles the state's
rocky coast while the artificial cliffs cleverly hide a collection of colorful marine life such as purple sunstars, red sea anemones and sea cucumbers,
among others. With lots of touch tanks for the kids (and adults too!), petting a shark is even possible!
Take in a Broadway style show at the Boothbay Playhouse or be treated to dinner in an old style theater barn - The Carousel Music Theater. Maybe the opera
is more your style? You can find that too in Boothbay Harbor Maine.
